Year Of The Game Of The Year

by on Jan.03, 2010, under Main Stuff

Given that I’ve allowed Activision (grudgingly) back into my good graces, I decided now was as good a time as any to try getting into the first of the Modern Warfare games. I also figured it was worth picking up Left 4 Dead 1 on the cheap as well, mostly for the gamerscore but also because I don’t boot into Windows mode often enough to warrant relying on the PC version.

What makes this weird, at least for me, is that both of the discs I picked up were the “Game of the Year” editions. Ordinarily this isn’t that big of a deal, as Call of Duty 4 and Left 4 Dead came out in different years. But I also happen to have the Gears of War 2 “Game of the Year” edition, which shows that its release date was in 2008. Alongside Left 4 Dead. Both games claim upwards of 30 award wins. Which leads me to the obvious and only rational conclusion.

Tales of Vesperia got shafted.

Well, considering that Namco Bandai shafted the 360 with the beta version of Vesperia (compare the stuff obviously added to the PS3 version hinted at in the 360 version), there’s a reason Vesperia isn’t mentioned in those discussions.
