Almost

by on Jan.30, 2012, under Main Stuff

I was sick on the 30th, so naturally that’s when Stuff began to Happen. With any luck I’ll have this sorted out soon enough. In the meantime I’m putting up some preemptive Bailout for today.

Driven To Distraction

by on Jan.28, 2012, under Main Stuff

Of course I would have a post written up about the test drives today, and then hit “Cancel” instead of “Publish”. I blame the NyQuil. Anyway, it’s coming today (Sunday), so be patient, please.

Slipping

by on Jan.25, 2012, under Main Stuff

I was exhausted when I got in on Wednesday, and I completely forgot to write a post. I have found that, amazingly, when I have to take the bus and I have to actually focus on the ride to make sure I can be let off at the right time, I can’t spend time composing posts.

Bad Habit

by on Jan.16, 2012, under Main Stuff

Yes, I missed another post. Yes, this is after the fact. Yes, walking almost three miles over the course of the day because the bus drivers aren’t stopping for you is exhausting.

Behind the 8-ball, Part One

by on Jan.14, 2012, under Main Stuff

So maybe you heard about this, but yesterday I was in a car accident. No injuries to me, but the car isn’t going anywhere for a while.

It came at a really inconvenient time, too, as I was supposed to drive to Cleveland today. Obviously that didn’t happen. I did, however, ride with some folks to West Virginia, which I suppose might possibly be considered almost equivalent, except not at all, really.

So that’s why I have to make this post after the fact, and say that on my agenda for Sunday is the write-up for the whole thing and just try to keep myself from genuine panic.

Smashed

by on Oct.27, 2011, under Main Stuff

…..that didn’t take long. Still, I’m becoming more aware of it again, and so these kinds of posts should be fewer in number soon.

Anyway, two of my co-workers were in a very bad car accident last night right outside the office. As in, literally right outside the office, barely 30 yards from the door. It rattled most of us in the office, so today is probably going to be kind of somber. I think that’s for the best, though. Please keep them in your thoughts.

Enjoy The Silence

by on Nov.05, 2010, under Main Stuff

So I’m all settled in and ready to get the Kurokiiro Festival underway. As such, we’re going to be a little quiet here on the blog. You could say that the blog is playing The Quiet Game so that I can play several dozen other, rather louder games.

Of course, that would be silly, but you could say it.

1.21 Jiggaexcuses

by on Oct.31, 2010, under Main Stuff

Yeah, I missed a day. Not on purpose, I can assure you. Plus, the previous two days have been kind of terse. Maybe I ought to start there and explain a little.

Some of the weirdness that’s been going on these past two or three weeks has not stemmed from the move, but from the fact that at work, we’ve been wrapping up a release candidate. Friday was the last day for that, and as a result I ran into a situation where I needed to make a 30-mile trip into the unknown on Saturday morning in order to deal with some of the fallout. I had literally no idea where I was going, and if I hadn’t got there before noon, the goal would cease to exist. Fortunately, a) I had the GPS unit, and b) I woke up at 5a anyway and got there at 10a. So my store of adrenaline was pretty well gone by noon. My car wasn’t damaged or anything; the trip was smooth, though there was a small detour.

So that brings me to yesterday afternoon, the first point since… oh, July, where I had the weekend to myself and no major obligations left. I did a little bit of cleaning up, but the majority of the day was spent right where I am now– on the couch. Unfortunately, you know what they say about inertia, and around 9p I was asleep. I woke up at 11p to get a blanket from the bed but other than that I was done. (Sue me, the couch was already warm and the bed was not.)

Today, really, should be more of the same; I’ve got to take a quick run out to get groceries for the coming week or so, and later on a friend or two will be over to help test out Rock Band 3 in local multiplayer. Because if there’s one thing that I really want to do today, it’s rock.

So, I suppose, that means I’m going away. I hope you don’t mind. But, for tomorrow’s post, I promise you, I’ll be back in time.

………….all this has been a really convoluted excuse for saying that I also watched the Back to the Future Trilogy yesterday.

Out Of The Darkness

by on Oct.02, 2010, under Main Stuff

So… hello.

I haven’t had a full post up here since late August, which should tell you something about the kind of September I’ve had. Here’s a hint: it’s been more than a little rough, both physically and emotionally. In between preparations for what I’m about to reveal, and work, and all sorts of other things, I’ve sort of run into one of those situations where I know, intellectually, that I accomplished a hell of a lot, but I still feel like the month was wasted. The fact that, over the course of the month, I watched upwards of a hundred hours of television may have something to do with it– but not that much, I don’t think.

So I suppose that’s as good a place as any to start. I made mention of this at the beginning of August, but I finished watching through the entirety of The West Wing over the course of September. I ran the numbers; for the full 154 episodes, that averaged out to roughly 120 hours. It was a lot of TV. I will admit that I wasn’t entirely focused on it at certain points; after Season 4, the show sort of went downhill until around the first quarter of Season 7. It was a great series, though, and I really recommend it to anyone who wants a closer look into how politics works.

Now, as to why I wasn’t paying attention for a season and a half. The big reason, and the thing I’ve kept under my hat for a good long while, is that I’m going to be moving very soon. As in, this month. I’ll decline to give an exact date, but the important thing to note is that most of my stuff is in storage, and the most valuable things have been there for a month or more. That in large part has contributed to the physical strain I’ve been under: most of my stuff is heavy.

It’s important to note, though, that once the move is done, and once everything is all set up and I’m all settled in, I think that the sense of accomplishment will finally come to me. Moving house is usually not a one-man gig. The fact that I managed to get this far more or less by myself is, if I could be permitted to indulge in a little self-aggrandizement, pretty damn awesome. I do, of course, have movers coming in to take the furniture to the new place when the time comes– I have limits, of course. But still, planning, managing, and executing this sort of thing on my own… It’s at once impressive and frightening.

Anyway. October’s going to be another rough month, but with any luck this will be the first in the unbroken line of posts leading to the end of the year. Tomorrow I think I’ll go over a bunch of the announcements that happened in September and some of the (very, very little) gaming I’ve been doing. Ciao, boys and girls.

Disconnect

by on Aug.26, 2010, under Main Stuff

(Sorry, folks, but my internet service has dropped the ball– completely unrelated to any rumors you may have heard, I should add– so I’m likely not going to be able to get any posts of any substance up and running over the next couple of days. I’ll try to post from the phone whenever possible and feasible, but don’t count on much more than just brief observations. With any luck we’ll be back in business on Monday.)
